- Hi, I'm Jerry James Stone
and you're watching Cooking Stoned.
Today's recipe is going to be
this wonderful beet hummus,
and before I get into that, though,
I really wanna share with youa sort of interesting fact.
So beets are actuallyconsidered an aphrodisiac,
at least they were by the Romans.
And there might be actuallysome facts to that.
So beets are rich in nitrates, and nitrates actually,
kinda, kinda get the blood flowing,
and they're also high in boron,
which, boron is what helps produce
the human sex hormone.
So whether or not beets actually will
help you like Viagra, I have no idea,
but the Romans thought so.
So let's get into thatas, let's make the recipe.
So let's cut our beets intoequal size pieces here.
Makes it easier on the food processor.
By the way you can get this recipe
and a bunch of other ones I did,
a bunch of vegan recipes Idid with Ed Begley Junior,
it's a little free cookbook that we have,
it's on my website.
I'll put a link to it in the show notes.
Go ahead and I'll add ourbeets in here to our chickpeas.
Because you need chickpeas for hummus.
Add in some lemon juice.
Bit of olive oil.
And next, we're gonnatoast up some sesame seeds.
But not before I throw in a bit of garlic.
So I toasted my sesame seeds here,
as you can see theykind of stick together.
That's just because the oilscome out when they're toasted
compared to when they're not toasted,
but you can see thedifference in color there.
And I just use this inplace of tahini sauce.
I kind of like it, it's quickand easy, and super flavorful.
I'm gonna add this toour chickpeas and beets.
(blender pulses)
(mellow music)
- How great is the color on this stuff?
I like to garnish minewith a little parsley.
And also, some of the sesame seeds.
There you go.
(funky music)
